营养是任何奥运选手训练中一个重要部分,对游泳选手来说更是如此。在游泳训练过程中,身体要消耗掉大量热量。体重68公斤的选手在进行大强度自由泳练习时可以在1小时内消耗大约700卡热量。许多奥运游泳选手一周的训练量要超过11~12公里。因此,饮食营养的目标应该是建立起因大运动量训练所需求的耐力和肌肉力量的平衡。蛋白质、蛋白质补充物和碳水化合物应该是饮食中的重要部分。菲尔普斯每天消耗12000卡热量,是正常男人平均摄入量的6倍。
