Recently, the U.S. press has reported and commented on China’s economic restructuring more and more. Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and Lawrence Klein, a Nobel Prize winner, wrote several well-known personalities in the political and economic circles in the United States praising the achievements and influence of our reforms. First, we think that the achievements of China’s economic reform are remarkable and alarming. Although the road is twists and turns and takes some risks, the future is bright and the momentum of reform is irreversible. Holmes, former assistant secretary of state for economic affairs at the Reagan administration, believes that China’s economic reform will eventually succeed. The combination of market economy and planned economy is feasible. Kissinger argues that “Deng Xiaoping and his colleagues have chosen an unprecedented path to modernization,” and the test of China’s reforms is in the ascendant. Salisbury, a famous journalist, praised China for embarking on a brand new and promising “fast lane.” Former Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Christopher said that China’s sustained economic growth rate in recent years is comparable to that of Japan in the 1960s, South Korea and Hong Kong in the 1970s and calls China a wakeful giant.
