The total output of EU mushroom cultivation is about 1 million tons, annual sales of 1.3 billion euros, employing 50,000 people. The EU mushroom industry is facing fierce global competition, with the biggest challenge stemming from the high cost of pest and disease control in mushroom production, which costs 60 million euros to buy chemical pesticides for disease control. The main species of mushroom production in Europe is white Agaricus bisporus, the main pests and diseases caused by the fungus mosquitoes, and fungal infections are mainly four categories: Verticillium warts, Pythium and Trichoderma. The EU’s seventh research and development framework plans to provide 1.5 million euros, the total R & D investment 1.9 million euros by the EU Mushroom Industry Association Joint Science and Technology Industry Group
