珠穆朗玛峰(以下简称珠峰)是世界第一高峰。位于我国西南边境。1960年我国登山队首次成功地从北坡登上了主峰,并采集了顶峰的岩石样品。1966—1968年,中国科学院珠峰综合科学考察队在有关部门大力协同下,对珠峰地区进行了全面的综合考察。本区岩石的同位素年龄测定工作就是在这个基础上进行的。测定的全部样品由登山队和科考队采集。整个实验工作在1968—1969年间完成。
