板栗营养丰富、味道甘美,无论鲜食、炒食、煮食无不相宜。据分析,含糖10~20%,淀粉62~70%,蛋白质5.7~10.7%,脂肪2~7.4%,以及各种维生素、脂肪酶等,是干果中的上品。栗木坚硬,耐湿、耐腐,是车船、坑木的优质用材。栗树的适应性很强,对土壤要求不严,耐旱、耐瘠,适宜山坡旱地栽种; 一年种,多年收,产量比较稳定。一般嫁接后1~2年即可结果,4~5年就可丰产;寿命长,更新力强,百年以上的老板栗树照样能结果,是绿化荒山、荒地,果林兼用的优良树种。
