Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), the world’s largest bank by market capitalization, announced its latest personnel appointment on April 19. Zhang Hongli, the former chairman of Deutsche Bank in the China region has been officially confirmed as vice president of ICBC.
This appointment marks the first time for a State-owned bank to recruit a senior manager from a foreign bank.
Zhang Hongli, 45, was born in January 1965, has the master degree of genetics of University of Alberta, Canada and the MBA from University of Santa Clara. He once served as manager of HP’s financial department. Then he joined in UK-based Schroders Bank as the director of the business in China. Then he became the chief representative of Goldman Sachs (Asia).
Zhang joined Deutsche Bank in 2001 and is currently a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
During his tenure, he has contributed greatly to the business development between China and Deutsche Bank, and it is Zhang’s honor to work for the State-owned bank, said Michael Cohrs, head of global banking of Deutsche Bank.
In December, the former president of ICBC Niu Ximing was transferred to head Bank of Communication (BOC), while Luo Xi, vice president of Agricultural Bank of China (ABC), was also appointed vice president of ICBC.
