The authors investigated an outbreak of measles that occurred in a high school in Houston, Texas, in the fall of 1989 and 4,200 students in two junior high schools to analyze the causes of the immunological failure and predict the effect of measles vaccine re-immunization. The survey results showed that a total of 77 measles cases occurred in 3 schools, 71 cases were found in high school and the attack rate was 3.2%. There were 6 cases in 2 junior high schools with an attack rate of 0.3%. High school students were distributed according to age. The highest attack rate was 5.7% in those ≤14 years of age, the lowest in ≥17 years (2.1%). The younger the age was, the higher the attack rate was.
