In the summer of 1913, when Zheng Zhengqiu, a young drama critic who came from an opium trader’s family, came into contact with a movie for the first time, he did not realize the special connection between “movie” and him. He and his friend Zhang Shichuan co-produced China’s first feature film “Difficult woman,” organized the Xinmin new drama club, the performance of civilized drama went. In the spring of the next decade, Zhang Ishikawa found him again, co-founding the first real movie company in the history of Chinese film, Star Studio, in a Shikumen house on Shanghai’s Guizhou Road.
