A new study by G. Miller and Anne de Vernal shows that if the global temperature rises as expected, the northern hemisphere ice may expand, not shrink. The evidence of geological records and the pattern of the greenhouse effect show that in the upcoming winter, a large amount of snowfall is likely to occur in the northern high latitudes, resulting in the expansion of ice mats. As occurred at the end of the inter-glacial period 120,000 years ago, increased snowfall due to enhanced evaporation and precipitation could lead to the expansion of existing glaciers. Analysis of glacial sediments and the record of the oceans and terrestrial climate in the Nordic and Arctic countries shows that the increase was recorded at the end of the last interglacial period
