冯·卡门(1881年—1963年),20世纪美国最伟大的工程学家。他的加州理工学院实验室后来成为美国国家航空和航天喷气实验室。在教学上,他传承了德国哥廷根大学民主自由的优良学风,为科学事业培育出大批英才。他的学生遍及五大洲,被人们称为“卡门科班”。我国著名科学家钱伟长、钱学森、郭永怀都是他的学生。学术讨论是要民主的。向真理低头,向科学鞠躬,是一个科学家最起码的品德。——冯·卡门
Von Carmen (1881-1963), 20th century America’s greatest engineering scientist. His California Institute of Technology lab later became the National Aeronautics and Space Jet Laboratory. In teaching, he inherited the excellent style of democracy and freedom in Goettingen University in Germany, nurturing a large number of talents for the cause of science. His students are spread across five continents and are called “Cameroonian classes.” Qian Wei, a famous scientist in China, Qian Xuesen and Guo Yonghuai are all his students. Academic discussion is democratic. To bow to the truth and bow to science is the minimum character of a scientist. - von Carmen
