英语中表达结果的方式有许多种，大体上可分为以下几类：
一、由不定式引导的结果状语
1.(only) to do
She arrived at the airport only to find that she had missed the flight.
她到飞机场时才发现她错过了那趟航班。
2.enough to do
He didn’t run fast enough to catch the train.
他跑得不够快，没能赶上那班车。
3.too…to do
It is never too late to mend.
改过不嫌晚。
注意：如果too之后的形容词是ready,glad,pleased,willing,thankful,good,true,anxious，其后的动词不定式修饰的是这些形容词，而不是修饰too，所以表肯定的意思。例如：
I’m only too willing to listen to your advice.
我很乐意听取你的高见。
4.so...as to do
The little bird was so lucky as to miss being caught.
这只小鸟太幸运了，没有被抓住。
5.such..as to do
He is not such a man as to leave his work half done.
他不是一个做事半途而废的人。
