OverviewDespite the availability of a wide variety of different contraceptive methods, 30% of babies born in the UK are the result of unplanned pregnancies. In addition, many unplanned pregnancies are terminated. In the UK, the combined oral contraceptive pill is the most popular contraceptive method, but breast feeding remains an important method in the developing world. It is important to take a detailed history before prescribing the combined oral contraceptive pill because there are some absolute contraindications.
