I. Introduction Since the 1960s, the economy of South Korea has been growing at a relatively high rate (with an average annual growth rate of 8.5%), which the West calls the “miracle of the Han River.” Since 1985, due to factors such as the appreciation of the yen, the devaluation of the U.S. dollar, the drop in oil prices and the decline in international interest rates, the economy in south Korea has been promoted to rise again. In the first half of 1986, the volume of exports increased by 23%. The annual growth rate in 1986 is expected to reach to 12%, which is called “the second Hanjiang Miracle.” Therefore, the western countries call south Korea “the second day.”
