The Mies van der Rohe Award, which is named after the modern architect Mies van der Rohe, is held every two years and has been for 24 years. It is one of the most important architectural design awards in Europe. On the 20th of this year, British architect David Chipfield took over the trophy at the Mies van der Rohe in Barcelona, Spain, and became the 2011 winner of the award. Helping him win this honour is the new Berlin Museum (Neues Museun) renewal project, which was the main reason that the old building destroyed in World War II was rejuvenated by the efforts of Chipfield, not only in Berlin, but also in The museum has become an important coordinate in the world architectural complex.
