To evaluate the inhalation of nitric oxide (NO) effects and prevention of inhalation injury side effects of dogs. Seventeen dogs were randomly divided into control group and treatment group, both of which were injured by smoke inhalation. In the control group, only O2 was inhaled. In the treatment group, O2 and NO were mixed. Intermittent monitoring of inhaled gas mixture of ammonia (NO2) concentration and arterial blood changes. The results showed that NO2 decreased 80.2% after treated with soda lime, and the level of MHb in the treatment group was significantly higher than that in the control group at 8 and 12 hours. NO2- 2) and MHb content was positively correlated. Suggesting that inhaled NO therapy did produce higher concentrations of NO2 in the mixed gas and arterial MHb concentrations gradually increased with prolonged inhalation
