Objective To investigate the hearing changes and characteristics of infants and young children who failed to pass the hearing screening. Methods Totally 62 infants and young children who did not pass hearing screening during the period of 2007-01-2007-12 in Peking University Third Hospital Children’s Hearing Diagnostic Center were evaluated by the results of auditory brainstem response and 40 Hz auditory event-related potentials confirm. Results 62 cases of infants and young children confirmed by the first visit, normal hearing of both ears in 16 cases, accounting for 25.8%; 46 cases of hearing loss, accounting for 74.2%. Of the 46 cases, 32 (51.6%) had mild hearing loss, 7 (11.3%) had moderate hearing loss, 3 (4.8%) had severe hearing loss and 4 (6.5%) had severe hearing loss. The data suggest that, from the first visit to confirm within 3 months, severe and very severe hearing loss of hearing the basic no change. Conclusion Severe and very severe hearing loss, early diagnosis within 3 months and early intervention within 6 months is feasible; mild to moderate hearing loss, the need for more than 2 times the hearing test and 6 months or more Follow-up, a comprehensive analysis of the test results before they can draw the correct diagnosis.
