MOTHER’S DAY
Mother’s day is celebrated（庆祝）on the second Sunday in May. It was the idea of a West Virginia schoolteacher. Upon observing（看到）the ill treatment（对待）of many elders by their children，she undertook a campaign（运动），petitioning（请愿）businessmen and Congressmen（国会议员）to set aside a day in the year to honor mothers. It is now the custom for children to give their mothers cards，flowers，or presents on this day. Mother’s Day is also a day when many people attend religious（宗教的）services to honor parents who have passed away.
母亲节
每年在5月的第二个星期天是母亲节。庆祝母亲节是西弗吉尼亚州一位老师的主意，她看到很多老年人受到子女的虐待，于是发起了一场运动，肯请商人们和国会议员们在一年中规定一天来对母亲表示敬意。现在，人们在这天给自己的母亲送卡片、鲜花或礼物已成为一种习俗。
FESTAS DOS TABULEIROS
Every two years in May, the people of Tomar（托马尔）in central Portugal（葡萄牙）celebrate Festas Dos Tabuleiros（盘子的节日）or the Great Festival of the Trays（顶盘节）, an event that probably dates back to a pre-Christian festival in honor of the Goddess Ceres. Today, girls dressed in white walk through the streets of the town, each carrying on her head a tabuleiro or tray which is piled high with loaves of bread decorated（装饰）with flowers.

每隔两年的五月份，葡萄牙中部地区的托马尔人便以独特的方式来庆祝“盘子的节日”，又称“顶盘节”。这个节日来源于公元前人们纪念女神赛丽斯的节日。庆祝活动中，当地的姑娘们身穿白色外衣，人人头上顶着一个盘子，上面是用鲜花装饰得十分精美，高高耸起的大面包，步履蹒跚地行走在大街上。
