Increased brain iron may be involved in the development of neurodegenerative diseases. This discovery makes brain iron metabolism has become a widespread concern in recent years and research areas. This review summarizes current understanding of some aspects of this area, including: (1) the distribution and function of brain iron; (2) the synthesis and distribution of transferrin and transferrin receptors in the brain; and (3) brain iron uptake And transport. In addition, the relationship between iron and certain metal ions, transferrin and transferrin receptors and neurodegenerative diseases and the role of transferrin receptor endocytosis in the transport of biological macromolecules across the blood-brain barrier (BBB) The role has also been briefly discussed.
