The Puhagan area in southern Negros is the only known geothermal field in the Philippines, where increased levels of regional seismic activity are clearly related to the early phases of geothermal energy development and development. During the commissioning of the Philippines’ first power plant in May 1983, the number of microseismic events greatly increased and it was documented that it could exceed 100 times per day. This type of seismic activity is characterized by the appearance of a microseismic mass that lasts from several hours to a month and then has a long period of inactivity and the largest earthquake up to a regional magnitude of 2.4. Because the emergence of a swarm of shocks may be caused both by liquid recharge and possibly by pumping water, it is more difficult to determine its single evoked mechanism.
