参与世博会的基本组成单位是国家,截至2009年3月27日,已有186个国家确认参加上海世博会。从参展国名单上可以发现,不论是超级大国还是蕞尔小国,不论是与中国建交的国家还是许多尚未与中国建交的国家,他们都以高昂的热情纷至沓来。个中原因是什么呢?世博会是展示人类在某一或多个领域如政治、经济、科技和文化等方面取得的成就,各参展国把新技术、新发明、新创造、新产品等借助世博会的平台向公众展示。当然,耗资巨大的参展,仅仅是为了展示吗?这一切都在证明着一点:世博会是一个国家实力的竞技场。在这个竞技场上,看不到裁判,看不到时间的限制,更看不到流泪流血,所有的竞技者都在和平友好的气氛中,进行着一次别样的比拼。这场竞技比的是智慧、科技、人才和创意,当然,比拼的根本则是经济实力和综合实力。
