旋转抛物镜面能将位于焦点上的点光源所发出的光平行地反射出去,射向远方;或能将平行射向镜面的光线集中射向焦点。因此,旋转抛物镜面广泛地应用于太阳能利用、微波应用和集中光源的反射等方面。旋转抛物镜面的车削,如能用数控车床进行,当然方便。但不具备数控车床时,可利用下面介绍的一种专用装置,在普通车床上车削出精密的旋转抛物面。
