我今年八十一歲了。二十年代初就到日本讀書,嗣後又去法國學習雕塑。畢業後回國,鑒於當時國內對雕塑尚不重視,沒有發展前途,又想出國深造。於是通過父親的關係,被派到意大利使館工作,同時繼續學習雕塑。我考入羅馬皇家美術學院,畢業後,雖有回國之意,但當時國內對雕塑仍不重視,我就留在使館繼續工作。這一‘留’,竟是三十餘年。我曾先後在意大利、土耳其、阿富汗、泰國、伊朗、比利時、埃及、剛果等國擔任隨員、秘書、領事、參贊等職。在這期間,我只回國四次。一次是在京、滬兩地舉辦個人雕塑展覽會;兩次是奉調回外交部;一次是探親。每次時間不過
