This chapter describes all common instructions in this manual except decimal and floating-point instructions. 9-1 Data Formats General Instructions can handle four types of data: signed fixed-point numbers, unsigned fixed-point numbers, unrelated code, and decimal numbers. The latter is used in conversion, assembly and disassembly instructions and will be covered in the chapter “Decimal Instructions.” Data is stored in general purpose registers or in memory or from instruction flow. In memory-memory-type operations, the pieces of information for operands may overlap. The effect of overlap depends on the operation.
