在上世纪70年代带领《纽约时报》走出困境,并将《纽约时报》变成美国报界“标尺”的传奇报人,《纽约时报》前总编辑亚伯拉罕·罗森塔尔于2006年5月10日因中风引起的并发症去世,终年84岁。在美国,很多报纸的总编辑每天早晨的第一件事就是翻看《纽约时报》,以检验自己报纸是否漏掉哪些重要新闻。而《纽约时报》在美国报业之所以能够取得这样的地位,主要归功于执掌《纽约时报》长达17年的罗森塔尔。罗森塔尔是世界报业的“殿堂级”人物,他一生都供职于《纽约时报》,他去世后,《纽约时报》专门撰文称,罗森塔尔凭借不懈的努力,最终从一个普通校园记者成为美国新闻业的传奇。
