在树根的天然形态的基础上,进行艺术加工,把现实美变为艺术美,既合创作对象与根材的自然规律之真,又合表达思想感情,促进社会进步的目的。对天然的根材进行艺术处理,把它升华提高,成为艺术之美。根的自然美分为两种,一种是未经加工改造的自然美,另一种是经过人的直接加工改造加以利用的对象。未经加工改造的具有自然美的树根,只是一种现实美,是根艺创作的素材和媒介,不能称为艺术品,好比一块含金量很高的金矿石,没有经过冶炼,只能叫矿石,不能叫黄金。经过人的直接加工改造过的树根,且有创作对象的自然美和根的天然纹理、天然形态的自然美。作者给于它的社会内容和思想感情,完成了取自自然、经过创作、顺其自然、还其自然的变化过程,使自然美和艺术美有机地结合起来,二者缺一不可。
