湖南素称“鱼米之乡”。党的十一届三中全会以来,我省渔业生产获得了迅猛发展。1992年,全省水产品总量达到60万吨,比上年增长12.9％;比1978年增长4.4倍。近十年来,每年以4万吨的速度递增。在农业各业中发展最快,而且连年持续稳定增长。渔业产值在农业总产值中的比重,已由0.8％提高到5.5％。洞庭湖区各县(市)占到10％以上.渔业已由过去的自给半自给副业生产转向商品化、专业化、产业化规模经营,并以其显著的社会、经济效益,在农业结构调整和振兴农村经济中占有重要地位。
