甘薯(I pomoea Latatas Lam.)种子无休眠期,成熟后只要温、湿度条件合适即可萌芽。但其种皮是一层硬质的革质层,不易透水吸氧。由于这层难于透水的种皮阻隔,未经处理的种子萌发,在适宜温、湿度情况下,也需要2～3个月的时间,甚至尚且不能萌发。因此,在育种工作中必须采用机械或化学的处理方法,将甘薯种皮的一部分加以刻破或溶解,
