褚遂良(596~658),字登善,钱塘(今浙江杭州)人,一作阳翟(今河南禹县)人。其父是唐太宗时的文学馆学士褚亮,和初唐书法大家虞世南、欧阳询是好友兼同僚。故而自幼即勤奋好学的褚遂良受到虞、欧的极大影响,精通书艺,博涉文史,为一时之才俊。相传,虞世南去世后,唐太宗曾对魏徵叹日:“无人可与论书矣。”魏徵颇懂书法,于是举荐褚遂良:“褚下笔道劲,甚得王逸少体。”唐太宗马上召见褚遂良,一见之下,大为叹服,封为侍书。
