食物有“酸甜苦辣咸”五味,苦是其中之一。爱甜怕苦,是人的共性,甚至哺乳动物也不例外。说来也怪有意思,食物中凡是甜的,大都能吃,凡是苦味的东西,大都有毒不能吃,似乎食物中不应有苦味。在生活水平提高的今天,不吃苦,多吃甜,已无可非议。但是,苦也是有益处的,能吃的苦味食物也不少,适当地找点“苦”吃,对人的健康和延年益寿是大有好处的。而且,吃“苦”对调节人的精神、情绪也是大有作用的。
