As is known to all, the Sahara Desert today is a vast expanse of extremely arid plains with high temperatures and dry temperatures throughout the year, with very little precipitation. However, the Sahara thousands of years ago were dotted with the lush fields of the lake. According to one archaeologist, the Sahara desert was formed as a series of events triggered by human activities that led Sahara to evolve into a dry and barren state today. Studies by archaeologists Dr. David Wright show that humans entered the area some 8,000 years ago and extensive deforestation in the Sahara, as well as reclamation of grasslands and overgrazing, began to make the once beautiful and fertile land begin to decline. In less than a thousand years, the Sahara has been transformed from an oasis into a barren desert.
