In 1962, a book entitled “Silent Spring” was published in the United States and quickly caused a stir that triggered a polemic-pesticide debate in American society that lasted for many years. The book presents a major issue in human life in the twentieth century: environmental pollution. Set off this uproar is a terminally ill but literary writer Rachel Carson. In the early 1950s, she began to notice that chemical insecticides were harmful to human beings and animals. New chemicals posed a grave threat to nature.
