CBA 元年战友大会有了年初国外体育公司包装的八强赛投石问路,首次采用主客场双循环赛制的95-96CBA 新赛季于1995年12月正式拉开帷幕。第一届比赛共有12支球队参加。算上前卫体协,部队有八一、空军、济南军区、沈阳军区、南京军区共6支球队在 CBA 赛场拼杀,在甲级球队中占半壁江山。这种情况仅存于CBA 元年,可以说是空前绝后的部队大会合。这届比赛八一队不但以2:0主客场两胜明星云集的广东队夺魁,并且整个赛季保持全胜。浙江队成为第一个也是唯一一个在本赛季中引进外援的俱乐部。
