Research Information Specialist Services evolved from the service philosophy and practice of embedded librarians and clinical information specialists to accommodate the widespread use of intensive computing and data-driven scientific methods and the increasing data sharing needs of researchers. Based on the advantages of expert search, data management and academic exchange guidance, information specialists are embedded in the work environment of the researcher and provide them with specialized services throughout the research cycle. Through data consultation interviews, the research information officer understands and evaluates the researcher’s data management processes and discovers the strengths and weaknesses of existing data management strategies, guiding them to continuously improve their data management strategies with data management planning tools. The Research Information Specialist conducts various forms of data literacy education based on the research team’s realities, continually adapting and improving the curriculum through course evaluations to meet the needs and expectations of researchers and assisting researchers to establish new or applied metadata standards To describe and manage data sets to facilitate collaborative research. After the research project is completed, research information specialists help researchers apply appropriate data sharing methods to both ensure data security and enable data sharing. The NIH Information Specialist Supplement provides a practical example of how libraries can support the university’s scientific research through the services of a sustainable information officer.
