通识教育是提升高职院校学生文化素质的基本途径。目前我国高职院校通识教育取得了比较明显的成效,但也存在对通识教育的地位与作用认识模糊、教师素质与数量无法充分满足通识教育的需要、通识课程设置不够完善、教育质量有待提高、通识教育教师考核与教学评价方式不够完善等问题。加强和改进通识教育,提升高职院校学生文化素质,可以从以下途径入手:树立通识教育全新理念、建立完善通识教育师资队伍、设置具有高职院校特色的通识教育课程体系、建立科学的具有高职院校特色的通识教育测评体系、积极推动教学方法与手段的改革创新。
