On behalf of the Association for Science and Technology of China, I extend my warm congratulation to the General Assembly. Just a moment ago, Mao Zedong, vice chairman of CAST and elder predecessor of China's engineering industry, said that rock mechanics is an applied discipline that has developed in recent decades. It plays an important role in water conservancy and hydropower construction, industry, resource development and national defense.
