The authors report the results of a Phase II study of the effect of rhu IFNα2 in patients with advanced hairy cell leukemia. The subjects were 11 patients (9 males and 2 females) aged 31-64 years (median age 47 years). They have hairy cell leukemia for 7 to 51 months (median 31 months). Nine patients underwent splenectomy 10 to 44 months prior to the median 32 months, and the patient showed progressive disease with severe signs of myelodysplastic syndrome. Seven of the 11 patients also had recurrent respiratory infections. All patients were treated with intramuscular injection of 5 × 10 ~ 6U rhu IFNα2 daily for 1 ~ 3 months. To
