The Nanjing Massacre was an event of an international character. The atrocities committed by the Japanese army not only caused great harm to the Chinese people, but also caused serious losses to the assets of foreigners in Nanjing. During the Nanjing Massacre, neither the neutral United States nor Germany, as Japan’s ally, suffered any looting and atrocities by Japanese military enterprises, expatriates and even embassies. This is not only a retaliatory response of the Japanese military to the international community in the West from hindering its military operations in China, but also Japan’s attempt to expel or eliminate the commercial interests of Western countries in China and their political influence while they are perishing. The Japanese Army’s looting and atrocities over the third country’s assets in Nanjing after the Japanese occupation of Nanjing constituted a major challenge to the Western forces in China. Compared with the Japanese military’s various injuries to the Chinese people, this atrocity is more likely to arouse the opposition and condemnation of the international community. Since then, the international public opinion has increasingly turned to support China and has a positive and far-reaching impact on China’s persistent long-term war of resistance.
