五老峰风景名胜区位于山西省永济市城东20公里处的中条山中。这里层峦叠嶂,悬崖峭壁,怪石险洞,奇花异木,珍禽异兽,山泉溪水,瀑布飞垂,庵、观、寺、院星罗棋布,真是一块“秀丽泽润,峻险神奇”驰名华夏的风景胜地。 五老峰地名的来由,最早见于晋代张僧鉴写的《浔阳记》:“五老峰横隐苍空,其形势如河中府虞乡县五老山”。据《蒲州府志》、《虞乡县志·艺文志》记载,明代谢琚所著《河东五老传》中说:“河东有中条山,东接太行,西连华岳,禹贡所为逾于雷首,唐风所为首阳之巅,即此山也。其上耸然持出最高且峻者,为峰有五,因有偃蹇伛偻之状,故名曰‘五老峰’。”
