The Ocean Drilling Project (ODP) successfully conducted a drilling survey using the “JOIDES Resolu- tion” drilling vessel in the Middle Valley hydrothermal system on the western coast of Canada. Due to installation constraints, this drilling can only take cores between 10 m and 100 m under the sea, and there is some difficulty in coring between a few meters and 10 m under the sea.
