Lao Jiang is twenty-seven this year.When we startedcalling him Lao Jiang,he was only seventeen.At col-lege,we added the word“Lao”before all our nameswhen we addressed each other.I remember the first day I arrived at college,a freshmanfrom Shanghai.I timidly knocked at dormitory door No.322,heavily loaded with luggage of all sizes.As I staggered towardsmy bed,utterly exhausted,several heads popped out of theirquilts,nodded to me as a way of greeting,and then disappeared
