珙桐(Dauidia involucrata Baill)系珙桐科珙桐属,别名又叫鸽子树、山白果(湖北西北部)、水梨子(四川)、水冬瓜(四川宝兴)。珙桐是驰名中外的观尝树,为我国特有树种。珙桐因具有美丽奇特的苞片,开花时形如满树群鸽栖止,非常独特雅丽。木材白色,心材淡黄色,纹理细致,质轻而坚,干后不翘不裂,略带光泽,是良好的家俱、箱板材。早在一百万年前,珙桐在世界许多地方均有分布,到第四纪冰川时期国外即已绝迹。但我国是冰川时期很多植物的“避难所”,珙桐得以幸存,传种接代迄至于今,被誉为“活
Dauidia involucrata Baill is a member of the family Davidia involucrata, also known as pigeon tree, mountain ginkgo (northwestern Hubei Province), water pear (Sichuan), water melon (Sichuan Baoxing). Davidia is well-known at home and abroad view the tree, for our unique tree species. Due to the beautiful peculiar bracts, Davidia has a very unique elegance when it is blossoming. Wood white, heartwood light yellow, fine texture, light and firm, dry and not crack, slightly shiny, is a good furniture, box board. As early as a million years ago, Davidia involucrata was distributed in many parts of the world and was extinct abroad during the Quaternary glaciation. However, our country is a “refuge” for many plants in the glacier era.
