邓小平社会发展理论是马克思主义社会发展理论与中国社会发展实际相结合的产物，它从社会发展的运行层面上系统回答了经济文化落后的国家如何实现现代化的问题，是具有中国特色的东方社会发展理论。邓小平社会发展理论从人类发展和世界历史的角度认识中国社会发展，准确把握中国社会的发展性质和发展阶段，强调社会发展的中国特色和时代特征，重视社会的整体发展和协调发展。邓小平社会发展理论体现了继承和创新的统一、理论的实践性和内容的创造性的统一。
Deng Xiaoping’s theory of social development is a product of combining Marxist theory of social development with the reality of social development in China.
