任国桢是中国共产党早期的优秀党员。自1924年加入了中国共产党,到1931年牺牲,虽然只有7年时间,却三次来到哈尔滨从事革命活动。在哈尔滨工作期间,他参加了国民党市党部《东北早报》的编辑工作,领导了哈尔滨人民反修五路的群众运动和反对中东路事件的斗争,为建立和发展哈尔滨及北满地区党的组织作出了不可磨灭的贡献。
