The Xiling Yangtze River Bridge, one of the key projects in the early stage of the Three Gorges project, was successfully opened to traffic on August 10 ahead of the Xiling Yangtze River Bridge. It has created favorable conditions for the communication across the Strait of the Three Gorges Project, speeding up the construction of the project and achieving the goal of intercepting the major rivers in 1997. Xiling Yangtze River Bridge is located 4.5km downstream of the Three Gorges Dam, leading to the Three Gorges Water Control Project, the diversion embankment and the Yangtze River.
