The area studied is a strip of farmland, extending from SW to NE along the Chin Chich Canal, in the northeast vicinity of Kunming. It is bounded on the east by the Pan Lung River (盘龙江), and on the west by the Teh Feng Mount (铁峰山). Both well defined. The Black Dragon Spring(黑龙潭) forms its northern boundary and aflords the source of the Chin Chich Canal, which flows through and drains the whole area.
