Flunarizine is able to cross the blood-brain barrier and is therefore chosen as a calcium channel blocker in the treatment of dizziness in Europe. Nifedipine is a highly lipophilic calcium channel blocker that passes through the bloodstream to an extralymphatic barrier and is therefore recommended as a calcium channel blocker for dizziness in the United States without flunarizine.
