秣食豆是东北和部分华北省区种植的饲料、饲草和绿肥作物。随着农区草业的发展其种植面积逐渐扩大。生产上主要应用的品种共12个,通过两年鉴定试验进行了综合评价。秣食豆具有较大豆更强的抗逆性,按其生育速度可分为快生、中生和慢生型,鲜干草产量以黄、黑、紫秣食豆最高,种子产量则以黑、茶秣食豆最高。
