Oscar Wilde’s novel The Portrait of Doug Gray has long been read as the story of a young man who has been punished for moral corruption. In fact, Dorian is a practitioner of rebellious Christian ethics and exploration of aesthetic survival. This artistic image embodies the foresightedness of the aesthetic and ethical views of the aestheticists represented by Wilde at the time.
