Individualism is the core of American culture. Individualism dates back to the Mayflower Treaty signed by Puritans, who made its debut on the continent of America in 1620. The independent revolution elicited the consciousness of people seeking freedom, equality and democracy. With the economic development of the United States in the nineteenth century, especially the progress of the westward movement, the individualist ideology of the people has been increasingly strengthened. After going through the process of industrialization in the 20th century until the second world war, the connotation and emphasis of individualism have always changed with the development of American society and economy. However, the core content has not changed.
