版画最早出现于中国的后汉时期,伴随中国印刷术的诞生而出现,其中的图像印刷就是最初的版画雏形。此后的几百年里,伴随中国造纸术、印刷术的传播,世界各国相继产生了真正意义上的版画。从出现之初,版画就以它特有的优势一可复制性,成为文化传播的重要工具,并成为人类文明早期发展最快的画种,成为一种世界性的艺术语言。版画在欧美、日本等经济发达国家一直都是最受欢迎和销量最好的画种。
